MUSIC FOR THE SOUL

Well she said it was possible and then she made it so.

mornington_2A few months ago, former Victorian police woman and Mount Eliza resident Maree Bannister approached Jesuit Social Services with an idea to raise funds for Brosnan Youth Services.

Her ambitious plan was an afternoon of good wine, good food and good music to be held at the Main Ridge Community Hall, featuring her wide circle of friends, musician pals and invited guests.

The result last Sunday was a resounding success, with a full house and much needed funds raised to support for the vital work of Brosnan Youth Services.

"When I was a police officer I saw people falling through the cracks and I thought there was no one around to assist them," she said.

"These people weren't criminals just people who had limited options.''

mornington1Maree has now been a member of the Peninsula Support Group, a group of local people that have been supporting Brosnan Youth Services for a remarkable 23 years, and in that time has helped raise more than $96,000 for the service.

"I really am impressed by the people at Jesuit Social Services who run Brosnan Youth Services. I wanted to do more plus I have a number of friends who are musicians and I wanted to give them an opportunity to play and have some fun.

"Good live music and Brosnan Youth Services, two of the things I love.''

Performing for free at Sunday's show were the Tea Leaves, Maria Forde, Burundi hip hop sensations The Flybz featuring Fablice and G-Storm, Jay McLean, David Bannister (MC), Eric And The Rock Chicks, Nick Van Cuylenburg, Roger McMillan, Eric Van Cuylenburg and The Royal Storr duet.
